CARBON FIBER REINFORCEMENT SYSTEMS (F.R.P.)
ARES Engineering was the first company in Bulgaria to apply carbon fibers for reinforcement of buildings and facilities. Up to date ARES ENGINEERING is a leader in the field of design and application of carbon systems and materials for construction reinforcements.
By now, ARES Engineering has completed several big projects, the most significant one being the reinforcement
of the main conveyer belt facility of the biggest Thermal Power Plant in Bulgaria (TPP “Maritza Iztok 2”), which was finished in 2005.
Following the wide application of carbon systems in aeronautics and car manufacturing industry in last decades, carbon systems have been increasingly used for reinforcement and restoration of building structures and infrastructure facilities. These systems are composites of carbon fibers and epoxy bonding mixtures.
Therefore, composite materials have excellent properties which are due to the outstanding qualities of
carbon fibers – modulus of elasticity 220 ÷ 700 GPa and tensile strength 3500 ÷ 5000 MPa.
Carbon systems are an elegant and reliable way to reinforce all kinds of concrete and steel construction elements, such as columns, beams, slabs, masonry walls, chimneys, and silos. They provide solutions to structural problems which are otherwise unsolvable with classical reinforcement methods.
Some of the considerable advantages of carbon systems are:
- Increased stability and ductility of the structural elements;
- No additional load on the structure
- No change in the geometry of the structural elements;
- Resistance to aggressive ambience and fire, not flammable
- Fast application
